Second Term 2024, Eighth Lesson, 1st of June

Neil has been quite busy in his workshop at home making stimpmeters which he brought to Saturday’s golf lesson. After explaining how a stimpmeter works and giving a demonstration, each of the youngsters was given the opportunity to use the stimpmeter and experience using it first hand. After they had had a lot of fun with the stimpmeter we split them into three groups and did some putting drills which included uphill putts, downhill putts and feel. For feel we put ball markers 1, 2 and 3 meters from the hole on 3 sides of the hole. The first feel drill was to putt from all three sides starting with ball at the 1 meter marker, then putting from the 2 meter marker and finishing at the 3 meter marker. Once they had putted from all three sides we then reversed the drill and they had to putt from the 3 meter marker, the 2 meter marker and finishing at the 1 meter marker. The uphill, downhill and feel putts all had an element of break which the youngsters had to work out and align themselves correctly. We also emphasized the importance of striking the putt out the center of the putter and below is a slow motion video of Hudson striking the ball out the center of the putter

At the end of the lesson we had our customary competition which was tough uphill putt and which was won by the youngest golfer in the group, Yousef, who got a “hole in one”

Five of our 1st218TEEN youngsters also played in the SA Kids Golf Competition at Simbithi on Sunday 02 June and did very well. Special mention must be made of Dasarah who played her first 18 hole competition and did very well coming third. Hudson, too did very well wining his age group in a play off with Daniyaal third.
